Was this said to scare me off?

I told my mum that I was going to stay with my friend for a couple of weeks, to escape a tense situation at home, and she said to me "you might freak", which has brought back fearful memories for me, of other times when I've felt out of my depth, away from home. Is this deliberate manipulation, or just a warning?
