How do i get this guy's number? Help!?

well I liked him when I first saw him . we say hey to each other and give hugs, but i want his number and i don't know how to get it . I'm not really the kind of person to just flat out say "aye , can I have your number?" I'm a little more humble . I'm just afraid that if I try to get it and he says no that things will be awkward for us when i see him because he'll know i want to go to next level but he wont . ugh , please help ! Also he does flirt with me at times, I just too early for me to really tell what his position is.
