If i am paying for HD channels and have an HDTV do i need to use their stupid cable box to get my HD channels?

or can i plug the coax directly into my tv, after all its got a digital tuner built in. on a side note i dont care to get music channels, a tv guide, DRV, andy of the benefits the box would give me.
