Can you smoke so much weed marijuana at once that it kills you?

I have a friend who claims that when u p out from alcohol or weed u r like on the edge of a coma or death and that its kind of like when they give you an anisthetic at the hospital if u have too much it can kill you. I know too much alcohol can kill you and put u in a coma but can weed? Dont worry i dont do drugs i was just wondering for the facts.
