What doents do you need to emigrate to South Africa on??

I'd like to look into all the doents you need to emigrate to SA. I've got plenty of time to get them, but I'd like to be prepared with whatever they through at me. I was talking to someone and they reckon if you have a British pport you don't need a VISA, is that right?? Bare in mind this is not for a holiday, it's for a long term basis. Does anyone have any info and how easy is it to do this?? I except that it's not that straight forward? My boyfriend will be leaving for SA sometime soon, he is South African and was only in the UK a short while, so he doesn't have any problems. Now I except that they will be wanting a letter/ statement or something along those lines to prove that when I'm in SA I will be financially looked after ect. That is not a problem either. I don't know whether being born in Zimbabwe helps or not?? I have been in the UK 5 years now and can apply for a British pport ( my grandfather was born in the UK and is British and my mother has a British pport )
